Holiday Concert

The Holiday Band Concerts will be held on Thursday, December 13, in the Intermediate School Gymnasium.

Tickets for this concert may be purchased in advance at school for $1.  Send ticket money in an envelope w/ child’s name on it; tickets will be sent home w/ child.  Admission at the door will be $2.  Money raised will be used for equipment, music, supplies, rewards, and field trips.

The 6th Grade Band Concert will begin at 6:45 p.m.  Sixth graders should be in their seats on stage no later than 6:35 p.m.

The 5th Grade Band Concert is scheduled for 7:25 p.m.   Fifth graders should be in their seats on stage no later than 7:15 p.m.

Please have Band members wear any combination of black and/or white clothing.  If this is not possible, please have them wear a lighter colored top and a darker colored bottom.  As much as possible, we would like to be dressed for success in uniformed fashion.

All students must be accompanied by an adult.  If your plans for the evening include listening to the other band, please be seated with your child by the start of that concert, and remain seated until its conclusion.  We ask that everyone do this as a courtesy to the student performers.

As always, feel free to contact me if there are any questions or concerns.  Thank you for your support of Band in our School.  I look forward to seeing you on December 13th!

Progress Book and Parent Access

You should have received a letter to set up a parent account on progress book, Girard Intermediate Schools’ new on- line grade book.  If you have not, please contact the school and we will assist you.  This is a great way to monitor your sons/daughters grades and progress in the classroom.   Also each teacher has a web site set up at the Girard City School Web Page, where they post class assignments and weekly happenings in their classroom.  Please go to the district web page and pull school and click on Girard Intermediate School.

Inclement Weather

Please be reminded that the weather is changing and the cool temperatures have arrived.  Please make sure that your child/children are dressed appropriately for the weather.  Please remind your son/daughter to bring their coats or jackets home from school as well.

Tardiness to School

Please take some time to review page 6 of our student handbook with your child or children.  Students may be tardy only three times per nine weeks, without penalty.  After a third tardy, detention will be assigned for every additional tardy in the current grading period.

The 24 Club

In November, Girard Intermediate School was invited to participate in the annual 24 Math Game Tournament which was held at Warren G. Harding High School on November 14th.  Several students volunteered to stay after school and learn this Math game so the Intermediate School would be represented at the Tournament.  The game requires students to look at 4 numbers and develop a pattern through adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing that uses all four numbers to come up with the number “24”.   Our GIS team competed through the first and second rounds of play and did a very impressive job as competitors.  Many expressed a desire to continue practice after school so they could be even more competitive next year.  We are all very proud of our 24 Club members for doing their personal best at the tournament.
